This February is New Client Month. It’s time for the Three Point Four team to spread our wings and fly. That’s right: we’re taking this show on the road! And by road, we mean emailing people we know and cold calling people we don’t. We’ve talked a lot about the “Do You Have the Bandwidth?” question before. This month is less about saying yes to incoming and organic leads (the best kind of work), and more about augmenting our existing client base.
So we are going to consciously seek out new clients with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. (We did this when we launched Three Point Four, too: telling a bunch of people that we have this thing that now exists in the world. That’s how we got our first big client. Shout-out Brady.) A huge part of business development is talking to people regularly so that when they do have work—or know someone who needs your services—in six weeks or six months or two years, they come calling.
Simply put: we’re going to very intentionally talk to a bunch of people.
Speaking of! Anyone we should talk to? Do any of our faithful readers know companies—large or small—that might need succinct words turned in on time? Videos, podcasts, case studies, whitepapers, design? We’ve done it all, folks. We also excel at telling people, very kindly, that an idea is bad and providing an alternative solution. Inquire within for a capabilities deck.
Onto the links.
An Article
Headline says it all here: “An alleged $500 million Ponzi scheme preyed on Mormons. It ended with FBI gunfire.” Sounds like a prestige streaming drama (or documentary!) that spans two seasons, when it should really be six episodes. Let’s go to my partner in the booth, Noah Davis, for his take: “This is a wild story, but also if you invest in a weird fund promising 50 percent returns, you deserve what you get.”

A Book
Really enjoyed Hua Hsu’s memoir, Stay True, which is about a litany of themes firmly in my wheelhouse: friendship, playlists, grief, thinking you’re extremely cool in college, driving around aimlessly. 10/10, would recommend. Read it in two days. A sentence that stuck with me: “It was a sign of personal growth, I thought to myself, that I could be friends with someone who liked Pearl Jam this much.”

A Show
Can’t stop watching re-runs of Frasier. Sorry, the heart wants what it wants.

A Race
Made my annual pilgrimage to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for the beloved Noquemanon Ski Marathon last weekend (one of my favorite days of the year). It was extremely cold and gray, and then it was moderately cold and sunny. I felt very bad, and then I had a hop in my step and felt very good. There’s a lesson in there somewhere.
I got a handful of compliments for my new Three Point Four kit. People seem to think it’s a real team. (Good biz dev strategy?) Anyway, I’m just here to tell you that Noah is on Strava, The Only Good Social Network, now.

Thanks for listening.
I was folding laundry yesterday and wondering how many ponzu schemes are floating along right now. They send out statements with numbers on them showing moderate returns, people are happy. There is enough money to pay out the occasional withdrawal. Is there such thing as a conservative ponzu scheme?
