At the end of 2024 we decided to start a Three Point Four Media Q&A series. We talk to interesting people in our industry and orbit every day, why not formalize it? We were in a bit of a shoemaker’s son situation: We lead strategy, marketing, editorial, and newsletter efforts for our clients but beyond this beloved bi-weekly newsletter don’t do much of what we do for our clients for ourselves.
So, in true Three Point Four fashion we did what we tell our clients: Just do the damn thing. No waffling. No “let’s launch this in Q2.” We emailed people we wanted to talk to and launched in January.
In the first Q&A, Noah framed the interviews as “talking to people we like or admire or want to be or maybe all of the above about their lives, their work, and their universe.” This is exactly how I pitch it to people I want to talk to. Turns out people are very willing to talk shop and have interesting and insightful things to say—and our subscribers want to read it.
Q3 is here. Congrats on making it to the halfway point. Here’s everyone we’ve talked to this year. We have some exciting Q&As on tap for the rest of this summer.
Gee Thanks’
: “No job I have ever had existed when I graduated from college.”- writer and SSENSE editor Chris Gayomali: “Just because you read something doesn't mean you're going to buy a razor subscription.”
Writer Will Leitch: “I see a blank page and I get to fill it. That’s amazing.”
Nimble and

- founder Michael Williams: “I’m not changing the world; I’m just trying to sell you pants.”
Normal Sport founder Kyle Porter: “Going out on your own is hard short term. Long term, it's going to pay dividends.”
Motormouth Media’s Judy Miller Silverman: “Follow your heart before you follow the money.”
Writer and documentary filmmaker Kevin Lincoln: “My career is a succession of happy accidents. If you put yourself out there and try enough different things, you wind your way to the place you want to be.”
After School founder
: “The weirdest and most surprising thing that I've learned is TikTok really does translate to newsletter signups.”VHS Ventures’ founder and managing partner Sumeet Shah: “I get excited about putting good people in a room and all of us having an opportunity to learn.”
And, for good measure, my favorite installment of The Loop at the halfway mark, from
: Death to throat clearing.I am in a post-New Year’s resolutions phase of trying to tighten our communications and proposals. Less “I think [whatever]” and “we feel [something]” and more “[whatever]” and “[something].” Extra words don’t soften the ask; they just take more time to read. 2025 is for getting to the point.
I reference this to friends, clients, and potential clients at least once a week. It resonates. Get to the point!
Enjoy the long weekend. Stay cool. 🌞🍦
