Oh hi. Me again while Bill explores opening a Three Point Four Media Dublin office.
In that way things serendipitously happen, we hired our first summer intern to help out with a couple ongoing projects. It’s something we’ve talked about in the past but never put any effort into at all until an opportunity presented itself and we pounced. Week one was a brilliant success: The intern is currently doing some actual TPF work while I write this goofy thing. That’s how businesses are supposed to work, right?
Another thing! Did you know there is a 2013 movie called The Internship featuring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn and also 2015’s The Intern with Anne Hathaway and Robert DeNiro. The Dante’s Peak/Volcano of low-level-corporate-ladder-climbing dramedy.
Here’s what Quentin Tarantino said about The Intern: “They're not considering that for the Oscars even though I think Robert DeNiro gave one of the best performances this year in that movie.” Having seen this movie (I was on a plane!), I’d say this is Hathaway erasure. Typical Tarantino. Bobby D did not win an Oscar for his performance, although the flick did take home Best Comedy at the 20216 AARP Movies for Grownups Awards.
Interns, a big mid-2010s content topic, apparently. Ah well, I’ve always been a little behind the times.

An article
I considered including this extraordinary piece about Sudan but hard pivoted to a story about the best show on television no one is watching. Can Industry succeed Succession is a silly premise (also: no), but there’s a ton of fun detail in Jackson McHenry’s feature. Why did it come out in early July, six weeks before the show’s August 11 premiere? Who knows. But I’m glad it did.
Would read an entire feature on this dynamic:
Industry has employed the same set of local background actors across its seasons, all of whom have their own assigned desks. They show up for work and sit for a day of filming as if they were at office jobs. Some have started to date each other.

A movie
I’ve been off books for a couple weeks (tried to read this but quit after 100 pages) so this is now a movie review bulletpoint. Glen Powell, suddenly everywhere—a fair take—is charming as is Adria Arjona and everyone else in the cast. An excellent use of two hours.
After the film, Richard Linklater, Arjona, and Retta talked about making the film, how it was such a collaborative effort, blah, blah, blah, and then Arjona told a story about going to the Andor set immediately after finishing Hit Man, telling Tony Gilroy she had some ideas about there character, and Gilroy saying yeah, we don’t do that here. Very Dark Side of Gilroy, imo.

A project
Did we not mention the intern hiring thing? That counts!!!

A failure
On Thursday morning, I tried to get tickets to The Killers show at Bowery Ballroom. I was unsuccessful as being 24164th is a tough way to score one of 575 tickets. I bet none of those lucky people saw The Killers at The Call in 2004 and/or have a dollar bill signed by Brandon Flowers after he jumped into the audience of a couple dozen, and we carried him to the bar.
At Three Point Four Media, we are not afraid to talk about defeat as well as success. That’s how you know we’re genuine. Turning life into content since 2017.

A swim
I was planning to swim 200 yards six times. But then I got to the pool and there were four other people in the lane, making timing repeats difficult. And I’m also learning that I’d rather swim a longer distance once than shorter distances more times. So I started swimming and just kept going. My watch tracks the number of laps I’ve done, which lets me not pay attention to how far I’ve gone. After an indeterminate amount of time, I looked at the giant clock at the end of the pool and told myself I was going to swim for another 10 minutes before looking at how far I had gone. Ten minutes later, I was at 1050 yards and decided to go another 150 before I stopped. Twelve hundo plus a short cooldown in the books, and a super exciting story to boot.

That’s all for now. Bill is back in two weeks, assuming he returns at all.
